BFC believes that football development begins when a participant enters the game for the first time, whether as a player, coach, referee or manager and continues through until he or she reaches their particular end point, be it representing Australia or simply managing their local team. It encompasses all the activities, programs, pathways and resources that are either existing, or need to be implemented, in order to ensure that our members are given the opportunities to pursue their dreams, to the best of our ability and resources.
In November 2007, Football Federation Australia (FFA) released the National Football Development Plan (NFDP), the first national strategic framework for development of the game in Australia. The plan is designed to keep the kids involved in football, longer, through enjoyment and participation. The introduction of Small Sided Football (SSF) plays a key role in the understanding of this new era. Field size and player numbers were the main characters of change and to this day are still the major challenges for our old school philosophers. World Game studies have shown, that if we reduce the athletic demand at an earlier age (field size), along with team numbers (less players per team), the skill level will increase at a greater rate, the player will have greater enjoyment and will stay involved in the game longer.
We at BFC understand that development can be a word that people hide behind through a lack of understanding. In football terms development does not necessarily represent winning; it does not represent abusive sideline slurs and negative un-sportsman like behaviour. It does not come with judgment or animosity. To put it simple, success should not be based on the result.
BFC's outlook on development is this! Regardless of the individual level achieved, whether in club-land or beyond, we as a fraternity, have a responsibility to understand, promote, choreograph and acknowledge our members along their footballing pathways. Our members will always remember where home is, where their dreams were first established. To the ever growing list of players below, thank you for the memories and good luck with your future endeavors.
