The "James Holland" Story
BFC caught up with Former Budgewoi Junior, James “Dutchie” Holland recently when he came and spoke to the Football NSW Academy squad who have been training on our playing fields.
He captured the imagination of the young players with his ball skills and gave them tips for their future with a question and answer session. James spoke about his Football career so far.
“Yeah, my career has been great so far, having been at AIS (Australian Institute of Sport) and representing Australia at U-20 level.”
James even captained the same side in Vietnam and has risen to public prominence in recent times by scoring for the Newcastle Jets in the A-League.
“That has been my favourite Football moment so far in my career. Whilst it would be great to play for Manchester United one day and play like my favourite player Zidane, I will have to put a lot of hard work in before I can get to that level. That is something I have no problem doing.”
He remarked that he wants to go as far as possible in Football and that it was very important for him to develop while still enjoying playing the game.
“Clubs like Budgewoi FC are great for young players and great for the community. For me, Budgewoi is the place to be for a young player. The NSW Academy and AIS are awesome, but Budgewoi has put in the ground work for me. I remember when I played for U-5’s and we won 24-0 and I scored 16 of the goals!” he said with a shy smile.
“I think Australian Football is on the rise and the A League has a very good professional standard and will continue to get better in the years to come. The authorities have recognised this fact, with every programme I have undertaken at the AIS having been unbelievably good. I think we have a lot of good young players coming through.”
James has stated that he is keen to stay in touch with his roots at BFC and we look forward very much to following his blossoming career.
